Tantric Rituals Have Concluded at the Central Khurul of Kalmykia

Today the concluding tantric ritual “Tangrak Kangso” was held at “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni.”

By tradition, before the prayer service began, the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche addressed the faithful. “I sincerely wish to all residents of the republic, to all of you, to your relatives, children, and loved ones health, longevity, and well-being; may you never fall ill, may everything turn out well for you. I also pray for the longevity of our root teacher — His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama; I pray for our brotherly peoples who live in territories that traditionally profess Buddhism — Buryatia, Tyva, Zabaykalye. I pray that Buddhism be preserved and flourish in these territories, I pray for the prosperity of these peoples and their well-being.”

Today’s ritual was held in two sessions. Tangrak Kangso is a ritual of gratitude to the protectors. The word protection refers not only to physical protection but also to spiritual protection, that is, the protection of body, speech, and mind. During the ritual the monks turned to the protectors of the Teaching, above all to Mahakala — the protector of the Central Khurul, Okn Tengr — the patroness of the Kalmyk people, and Kalarupa, one of the principal protectors of the Gelug school, with a request to grant protection and patronage to all living beings. This ritual is of great significance for everyone’s life; it multiplies happiness and bestows well-being.

At the end of the prayer service, the senior administrator of the Central Khurul Yonten Gelong thanked all the faithful who took part in the rituals online. “Over these four days, hundreds of people watched the broadcasts of the rituals; on some days there were more people than used to come to the khurul before. This year’s rituals united a great number of people with one motivation, in one prayer for the benefit of all living beings. According to Buddhist tradition, after the completion of such virtuous deeds, a dedication of merit is performed. Let each of us reflect that the power of these merits, which we have accumulated over these four days, may truly bring benefit to all living beings. May the virtues you have accumulated multiply and benefit a great number of people,” he added.

Also on this day, representatives of the Buddhist communities made an offering to the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche in gratitude for the rituals performed and with a request to grant teachings to his followers as often as possible.
