Today the “Jinseg” Ritual Was Held at the Central Khurul

On the second day of the annual tantric rituals, the monks of the Central Khurul “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” performed the “Jinseg” ritual (Fire Puja).

Jinseg is a ritual aimed at removing obstacles on the path to Enlightenment by purifying the traces left by ordinary non-virtuous deeds, especially broken vows and promises, as well as preventing an unfavorable course of events. The word “Jinseg” consists of two parts: “jin,” meaning offering, and “seg,” meaning burning — that is, an offering through burning. There are four types of fire pujas in all: pacifying, increasing, subjugating, and destroying (wrathful), which are connected with four kinds of activity. Today the monks of the Central Khurul, relying on the deity Yamantaka, performed the pacifying puja. There are different classes of spirits, some of which are capable of causing harm, and in order to remove the harm caused by such spirits the “Jinseg” ritual is performed. During the ritual the monks made a large number of various offerings and called upon the spirits not to harm living beings.

Before the ritual began, the head of the Buddhists of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche addressed the faithful. In his address the Shajin Lama urged residents, despite the various obstacles and difficulties encountered along life’s path, not to despair, not to lose heart, not to grieve, but on the contrary to cultivate inner strength within themselves. “We, as followers of the Buddha’s teaching, have three jewels — the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. And it is very important to generate refuge in the three jewels, very important to go under the protection of the three jewels, important to believe that these three jewels are able to protect you. If you have such faith, no obstacles will touch you,” Telo Tulku Rinpoche noted.

Tomorrow, October 5, the “Torgyak” ritual (a ritual for removing obstacles) will be held at the Central Khurul. Please note that during the rituals, from October 3 to 6, the Central Khurul is closed to visitors. The tantric rituals are held online with the participation of the monks and staff of the khurul.

Everyone can join the rituals via the live broadcast, which will be conducted on the official YouTube channel of the Central Khurul and on Instagram.
