Statue of Buddha Maitreya in Lagan Undergoing Renovation
A major stage of the work has been completed — and the result is truly impressive. Step by step, the craftsmen restored the statue’s beauty: they removed the old coating, carefully leveled the surface, and applied epoxy putty and primer. After that, they applied a special gold paint that gives the image of Maitreya a radiant and even more expressive appearance.
Otkhon Gelyung, administrator of the Lagan khurul, shared his thoughts: “The craftsmen’s labor — is a kind of offering. They put great care into every detail, and it shows. The renovated statue — is not merely an adornment of the city, but a symbol of positive change and of the light we wish to bring to people.”
The next step — is the ritual of opening the eyes. In the Buddhist tradition, this is more than an artistic detail: it is believed that from this moment the statue “awakens” and can bring benefit to all who look upon it. In addition, the monks will place the required sacred contents inside the statue — in strict accordance with the Buddhist canon.
