Repair Work Has Resumed at the Central Khurul of Kalmykia
As part of the preparations for the celebration of its 15th anniversary, repair work has resumed at the Central Khurul.
The repairs began last year and were to continue this year, but due to the pandemic the start of the work had to be postponed. A contracting organization has been chosen, estimate documentation has been drawn up, and the work has already begun.
The contractor has begun repairing the large prayer wheels, as well as the rotundas with the seventeen panditas.
Among the plans of the khurul’s administration is the modernization of the library and museum: the Buddhist library will be equipped with modern technology, and the museum space will be expanded.
Repair work will also be carried out at the Geden Sheddup Choi Korling monastery. On the monastery grounds a “Zulyn ger,” stupas will be built, trees and flowers will be planted, and a paved walkway will be laid.
According to the Head of the Buddhists of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche, a large amount of work lies ahead, requiring considerable financial expenditure. But despite the existing problems, the khurul’s administration and the monastic community will make every effort to ensure that the main landmark of the capital is as accessible, beautiful, and convenient to visit as possible.
