Prayers Praising Buddha Shakyamuni, His Deeds and Teaching
Long before the start of today's prayer service, devotees gathered at the Central Khurul. As in previous years, the hall was full. For today, Buddhists around the world are offering prayers praising Buddha Shakyamuni, his deeds and Teaching — we are all celebrating one of the especially sacred holidays: the Day of the Buddha's Descent from the Heaven of 33 Deities.
The Head of Kalmykia, Batu Khasikov, came to the Central Khurul to join his fellow citizens in prayer. Before the service began, together with the supreme Lamas of Kalmykia and Tuva, he circumambulated the temple, paid homage to the recently created mandala and made an offering of light to the Three Jewels — for the benefit of all living beings. This ritual — is not simply a tradition, but an expression of a shared aspiration towards goodness and harmony.
Addressing the devotees, Batu Khasikov said: “Today — is not simply an important date in the Buddhist calendar, but an occasion to remember once again how much our spiritual heritage means to us. It unites us, strengthens our traditions and helps us remain true to our values”.
The Shajin Lama of the Kalmyk people, Geshe Tenzin Choydak, also shared his thoughts on the significance of the holiday: “This holiday reminds us of the great power of gratitude — above all towards those who gave us life and instilled in us our first understanding of goodness. The example of the Buddha, who ascended to the heavenly abode to bestow the Teaching upon his mother, teaches us to remember our roots and those around us. On such days, virtuous deeds gain special power, and I call on everyone to care for their loved ones and do at least one good deed — however small, let it be sincere. May this day be an occasion to become a little more attentive to one another”.
The participation of a delegation of monks from Tuva, led by Kamby Lama Loden Sherab, lent special significance to the prayer service. Their presence was a living testament to the spiritual closeness of these fraternal peoples, their care for their shared heritage and the continuity of the Buddhist tradition.
The prayer service itself took place in complete harmony and unity — the voices of monks and devotees blended in prayer, highlighting the power of shared spiritual practice.
May this day leave a bright impression on our hearts, and may kind thoughts find expression in deeds. Om Muni Muni Maha Muniye Soha 🙏🏼
