Washing and Consecration Ritual Held for the Maitreya Buddha Statue in Lagan

Today is a special day not only for the residents of Lagan, but also for our entire republic. It is a day that will long remain in the memory of everyone who stood at the foot of the Maitreya Buddha statue today. A ritual of washing and consecrating the sacred statue was held in the coastal town. It was attended by monks from the Central Khurul, led by the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, as well as venerable monks from the renowned Drepung Gomang Monastery.

According to the supreme Lama of Kalmykia, Geshe Tenzin Choidak, the very presence of this majestic statue in Lagan is a great treasure and a rare blessing: “You are fortunate people: you have the opportunity to bow before Maitreya Buddha every day, receive his blessing, and accumulate merit here in your native land. May this sacred statue become a source of strength and peace for the entire area.”

After several months of restoration, the statue of the Buddha of the Future has taken on a new appearance. Everything was done in accordance with the canons. It was very important to complete the work with an ancient ritual symbolizing purification—not only of the statue, but also of each of us, our thoughts, and our deeds. May this purification bring peace and well-being to every family. This is what the monks and devotees prayed for today.

This sacred statue truly belongs to the people: it stands thanks to the efforts and donations of many people. Every detail of its appearance holds a measure of care and a sincere wish to perform a virtuous deed. The fact that this shared effort united so many hearts is in itself a blessing.
