Opening of the Exhibition of Unique Relics of the Mongolian People
According to experts, these thangkas represent a unique cultural and historical monument connected with outstanding spiritual leaders and historical events. In their time, they were presented by the 13th Dalai Lama to the Eighth Bogdo Gegen.
The Five Dhyani Buddhas, or Five Tathagatas, personify freedom from being caught up in the five afflictions. The main purpose of these symbolic images is that they are intended for meditation, during which a person identifies himself with the depicted deity, a symbol of the primordial perfect nature of the human being.
The people of Kalmykia have been given such a rare opportunity to behold the relics of the entire Mongolian world. The relics can be viewed throughout the year at the N. N. Palmov National Museum of the Republic of Kalmykia.
