Meeting of the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia with a Delegation from the Consulate General of India
Today a delegation from the Consulate General of India arrived in Kalmykia. In the morning, a meeting between Shajin Lama Geshe Tenzin Choydak and Consul Mr. Jaisundhara Devaprasad took place at the Central Khurul. Ahead of the major cultural events dedicated to the days of Indian culture in our region, the working group discussed the key points.
The Shajin Lama warmly welcomed the guests and, with deep gratitude, recalled last year’s event, when the relics of the Buddha were brought to Kalmykia. He emphasized that this had been a truly historic moment for all the faithful of the republic, expressing sincere gratitude to the government and people of India for the opportunity to behold and venerate with their own eyes the greatest heritage of Buddhists.
The guests spoke about the rich program expected in the month of May. It will include screenings of Indian cinema, concerts by artistic ensembles, a crafts fair, and even chefs from India presenting their cuisine. One of the highlights will be the arrival of a master who will create an impressive sand sculpture of Buddha Shakyamuni, about 5 meters long. A suitable venue in Elista is currently being selected so that this sacred act is accessible to the greatest number of people.
The Venerable Geshe Tenzin Choydak confirmed his intention to take part in the Days of Indian Culture, expressing confidence in their great significance for the spiritual and cultural rapprochement of the peoples of Kalmykia and India.
