A Buddhist Conference Held in Kalmykia


Today the regular Buddhist conference of the Centralized Religious Organization “Association of Buddhists of Kalmykia” took place.  The conference was held online, taking into account the coronavirus restrictions. It was attended by the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche, monks of the Kalmyk Central Buddhist Monastery “Geden Sheddub Choi Korling,” and representatives of local religious organizations of the city of Elista and all districts of the republic.

Three issues were considered on the agenda of the session:

  1. A report on the work of the ABK over the past 5 years;
  2. Amendments to the Charter of the ABK;
  3. On elections to the Council of the ABK and the auditing commission.

During the discussion of the first issue, the work of the ABK was deemed satisfactory. The Shajin Lama of Kalmykia outlined the main tasks and priority directions facing the Buddhist organizations of Kalmykia. At the session it was decided to elect  a Council of the ABK of 15 people representing all the district municipalities of Kalmykia and the city of Elista.  It is planned that the Council will continue to work as the executive body of the ABK.

Also, as part of the conference session, the powers of the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, the President, and the Vice President of the ABK were unanimously confirmed.
